The Department of Management studies organised an industrial visit to BMW Chennai plat for first year MBA students for four days from 12^th march2024. A batch of 15 students per day was taken to plant. The visit was flagged off by Dr.R.Vasudevaraj, Principal, Prof. K .Mathiyazhagan vice principal ,and Dr.J.Saravanan Head of the department of management studies .

The BMW Plant in Chennai produces 12 models like BMW series and mini-cooper. BMW is the world leading manufacturers of premium automobiles and motor Cycles.

Mr.Naren, HR took students to the assembly line and explained the process of assembly. It has two assembly lines and a total production capacity of 15000 cars annually .each vechicle takes a total of 30hours to go through the complete process of assembly and quality checks. It assembles cars with upto 50% localisation. The plant is sourcing six percentage of its power requirements from solar energy. The BMW all series is known for its premium quality and advanced technology and performance.

Quality control measures were emphasized throughout the visit. Students witnessed rigorous testing procedures conducted to maintain BMW’s reputation for excellence in craftsmanship and safety standards.

The BMW Plant Chennai showcased its commitment to sustainability by implementing eco-friendly practices such as water conservation, waste management, and energy-efficient manufacturing processes. This aspect resonated well with the environmentally conscious generation of students.

 Interaction with plant personnel provided insights into workforce management practices, including training programs, employee safety measures, and the importance of teamwork in a manufacturing environment.

The students learnt about the procurement of automotive parts, assembly process, Testing and HR practices, Logistics Operations, In a nutshell, The theoretical knowledge was practically experienced during this visit.
