The SDG Club of SRM Arts and Science College is a student-led committee that helps young people understand the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and act on them — starting from our own campus and reaching out to our neighbourhood in Kattankulathur.
The club has been formed as a committee of the college on the model recommended by the Government of Tamil Nadu in the guide “SDG Clubs: Shaping Change Agents for Sustainability” (Planning and Development Department). The guide asks colleges to move students from being passive learners to becoming changemakers, and to connect global goals with local action.
To inspire and empower the next generation of leaders to drive sustainable change and to create a better Tamil Nadu by working towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
To engage, educate and mobilise our students to act on the SDGs through lively programmes, innovative projects and meaningful partnerships, building a culture of sustainability and social responsibility on the campus and beyond.
Constituted by College Circular No. 80 / 2026–2027 dated 02.11.2026. Faculty members guide, coordinate and monitor the activities of the club, while student members actively participate, initiate programmes and promote sustainable practices among their peers.
Goal-wise awareness days, quizzes, games and talks that make the 17 Goals easy to understand. The “Goals in Golu” game from our Navarathiri Kolu is one example.
Goal Champions measure waste, water and energy use block by block, report the gaps to the Principal and propose improvements.
Every member signs a personal pledge — to save water, plant saplings, recycle items and cut plastic use — and reports back on it.
Clean-ups, tree planting, health awareness and outreach in the neighbourhood, with the local panchayat, urban local body, schools and NGOs.
A space for students to build ideas, models and apps for local problems in waste, water, energy and health, with mentors and the Institution’s Innovation Council.
Leadership, communication, project-planning and research training for Goal Champions and members.
Every activity is recorded and counted, and an annual club report is prepared and shared.
A Goal Champion for every Goal, and every student signs a My SDG Pledge Card.
Waste, water and energy use measured block by block.
Responsible Consumer Pledge.
Students pitch ideas and prototypes for a more sustainable campus.
Each programme has alternative formats, and the club also joins college-wide days such as Independence Day, Republic Day and World Environment Day.
Students learn about the 17 Goals and what they mean in everyday life — waste, water, energy, health, gender equality and fair work.
Students gain leadership, teamwork and project skills that help them in their studies and in their careers.
The college strengthens its green campus practices and its links with local bodies, NGOs and the community.
The club supports the State’s own missions — Green Tamil Nadu, Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam and Namma Ooru Superu — and the national Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment).
The Principal, Dr. R. Vasudevaraj, provides overall guidance and support.
Faculty coordinators, industry experts, an alumni member and a local community leader who guide the club.
Ms. G. Nivedha and Dr. G. Miruthula guide, coordinate and monitor the activities of the club.
Ms. S. Suja, I-Yr M.Sc. Microbiology.
One student champion for each of the 17 Goals, who spreads awareness of the Goal, suggests ideas and leads activities for it.
Every student of the college may join.
Review projects and plan campaigns.
Share achievements, welcome new members and plan ahead.
Review impact and support partnerships.
Review progress and approve plans.
Membership is open to all students of the college. Meet the Overall Student Coordinator or your department’s Goal Champion to register. The club tracks its work against the State’s 100-point SDG Club scorecard, which looks at eight areas:
An abridged annual report will be placed on this page.
