The Anchor Pad

About

The College Compering & Anchoring Club

The Anchor Pad trains students to host college events with confidence in Tamil and English, and opens the way to internships and careers in TV channels, radio and event management.

Vision

To be the college’s recognised home for compering talent — producing confident, bilingual anchors who can host any college event with polish, and who carry that skill into media, broadcasting and event management careers after graduation.

Mission

  • Train interested students systematically in the craft of compering — voice, language, script, stage presence and audience handling — in Tamil and English.
  • Provide every college event with a trained anchor, to a consistent standard.
  • Build a structured pathway for members, from first-time trainee to Lead Anchor of major college events.
  • Open real career routes in media: internships and placement in TV channels, radio and event management companies, supported by MoUs.
  • Build public-speaking confidence, stage presence and bilingual fluency as skills useful well beyond anchoring.

Objectives

  1. Recruit and train a core team of student anchors each semester through open auditions.
  2. Complete the eight-week Foundation training for every selected member before independent assignment.
  3. Maintain a roster of trained anchors for every college event that requests one.
  4. Hold one signature showcase, “The Anchor Pad Live”, each year.
  5. Place members in internships with TV channels or event management companies every year, and enter into MoUs with such organisations.
  6. Support members’ placement in media and event careers through portfolio, audition and interview preparation.

How The Anchor Pad Works

  1. Join: Open auditions are held each semester. No prior experience is needed, only willingness to train.
  2. Train: An eight-week Foundation programme in voice, diction, scriptwriting, stage presence and protocol, in Tamil and English.
  3. Practice: You first anchor small department events, with a senior member beside you.
  4. Host: Trained members are assigned to college events through the roster.
  5. Grow: Senior members lead major events, mentor newcomers and apply for internships and placement in TV channels and event companies.
