The Department of Biochemistry organized a ‘Reduce food Loss and Waste’ on the International Day of Food Loss and Waste, 29th September 2021 at 12:00 Noon over Google meet. Resource Person of the Webinar was Ms. Mercy Gabriel M.Sc., (Psychology), MBA. PGCHRM – XLRI, HR Professional, Tempel Precision Metal Products India Pvt. Ltd. This Webinar started with the permission from the Principal Dr. R. Vasudevaraj, SRM Arts and Science College. Welcome address and chief guest introduction is presented by Dr. B. Arirudran, Assistant Professor and Head i/c of Biochemistry. Followed by the Vice-Principal Mr. K. Madhiazhan in his felicitation address appreciated the department for organizing the webinar aimed at giving awareness about food loss and waste to the faculty members and the participants.

 Ms.Mercy Gabriel, the resource person delivered his presentation on food loss and waste. Faculty, Students from various departments dedicatedly took part in this programme. The speaker Ms. Mercy Gabrial presentation about reduction of food loss and waste is excellent. She made a live interactive session with the participants and give awareness about the necessity of preserving food products for the future. As we are in the developing country, we have more responsibility to preserve the food and food products in the future; otherwise the younger generation will suffer a lot like neighboring countries. She also educates the students along with staff members and makes them aware of how to handle and consume the food, avoid the wastage of food. Give importance and proper care of their health. The Webinar was coordinated by      Dr. R. Aruna, Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry. Faculty, Students and from various department of our college around 100 members were actively participated in the Webinar. The Webinar ended around 1.15 PM with gratitude from the participants. The vote of thanks of the Programme was delivered by Dr. S. Jayakumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry. E-certificates were issued to the participants for their active participation in the Webinar.

The webinar also focused on a healthy approach towards food system and environment. This programme raises the awareness about food loss and waste during various events and banquets. At the end of the session, participants provided valuable advice on how to thrift the food during day-to-day life activities. Finally, our goal of educating the participants about the importance of food and how to use food sparingly without wasting it, was fulfilled through this webinar. It can understand from the response of the participant. The success of this program is to motivate students and make our Nation healthier and stronger by realizing their responsibilities in food production, thrift of using food without wasting it.
