The Department of English organised an awareness rally on cycle under the theme “Pedal to Protect the Environment” on 30th December 2021. The rally was aimed to create awareness to the public on importance of preserving natural resources and on creating pollution free environment for the younger generation. The rally began at the main block with the active participation of around 50 students. The cycles had placards echoing the slogans and the theme of the rally. Mr. K. Siva Sankar, Head of the Department of English welcomed the chief guest and following him, the Chief Guest Dr. B. Chidhambara Rajan, Principal of SRM Valliammai Engineering College addressed the on how important it is to take care of the surroundings, and water bodies to create the environment a better place to live in as they are the future citizens of India. Dr. R. Vasudevaraj, Principal and Prof. K. Mathiyazhagan, Vice Principal of SRM Arts and Science College motivated the student participants and honoured the chief guest with a memento. The rally was flagged off by the chief guest. The rally covered the surrounding areas like East Potheri, Kattur and Ninnakarai creating awareness to the public. As part of the program, the students distributed the awareness pamphlets and explained the importance of preserving the environment to the people. Covid protocols were maintained throughout the rally. Head of the Department of English and the faculty members also took part in the rally. The rally ended successfully with the students returning to the College Campus. Refreshments were provided to the participants and the faculty members who actively took part in the rally.
