The PG Department of Commerce, SRM Arts and Science College, organized a One-Day Industrial Visit to Chennai Port Authority on 27th February 2026 as part of the academic curriculum. The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure and real-time industrial experience in logistics, maritime trade, and port management.
The programme commenced at 9.15 a.m. at the College Administrative Block. Students were assembled and briefed about the objectives and expected learning outcomes of the visit. The industrial visit was organized under the guidance of Dr. P. Satheesh Babu, Professor & Head, PG Department of Commerce, and Dr. V. Navaneetha Kannan, Head, Department of Commerce (UG).
A total of 90 students from III B.Com (General) participated in the visit along with faculty members.
Upon arrival at Chennai Port Authority, the officials warmly welcomed the students and faculty members. The session began with an informative presentation that highlighted the history, growth and strategic importance of the port as one of India’s major maritime gateways.
Students were introduced to:
The infrastructure facilities and container terminals
Bulk cargo handling systems
Digitalized port operations
The port’s contribution to national and international trade
The industrial visit to Chennai Port Authority was highly informative, well-coordinated and academically enriching. It successfully provided practical exposure to port operations, export-import procedures, and logistics management systems.
The visit effectively bridged the gap between classroom learning and real-world industrial practices. It enhanced the students’ understanding of supply chain management, international trade mechanisms, and modern port operations, thereby contributing significantly to their academic and professional development.
Overall, the industrial visit was a meaningful and enriching experience for all the participants.
