Holi, the festival of colours was celebrated by the Department of Biotechnology at SRM Arts and Science College on 18th March, 2022. The celebrations involved teaching color based phenemenons and instrumentation through model displays under two categories: Biocolors and Chemicolors. Under Chemicolors, students displayed the laboratory colored chemicals related to VIBGYOR, the principle of Beer-Lambert’s law and the absorbance range of each color in instruments- colorimeter spectrophotometer were explained. The significance and applications of various colored chemicals, dyes and reagents available at the departments were identified and discussed. The color based phenomena in nature were explained through biocolors model display. Biocolors models displayed phenomena of iridescence, light scattering and bioluminescence. It helped the students to understand the colors in nature and its significance in natural life
