The Department of Biochemistry organized a one-day Industrial Visit for the 3^rd B.Sc., 1^st M.Sc. and 2^nd M.Sc. Biochemistry students at Taiyo Feed Mill Pvt Ltd, Uthukkottai, Thiruvallur on 06.02.2024. The visit was flagged off by the Principal, Dr. R. Vasudevaraj. Totally 39 students which include 28 girls and 11 boys visited the company with 5 teaching faculty (Dr. S. Jayakumar, Ms. M. Hemalatha, Dr. B. Arirudran, Dr. R. Aruna and Dr. M. Yuvaraj) and 1 non-teaching member (Mr. M. Samidurai) who were guiding them.
The purpose of this visit was to increase their understanding of the application of industrial biotechnology to the production of pet food and the marketing of mass production globally, among other things. During visit to the company, the students were split into two groups. The faculty and students toured the raw material formulation, filling, pellet compressor, oil syrup coating, multi-brand manufacturing, labelling and packing of the pet feeds. The head of the department of biochemistry, Dr. S. Jayakumar, gave a memento to Mr. R. S. Prabakar, the managing director, and also thanked the general manager of the company for making the industrial visit more engaging and interesting to the students.
The students expressed that the visit gave them a better understanding of how the company operates internally and gave them a taste of what it would be like to work in an industry. The visit was insightful and beneficial for advancing the students and their careers practical and industrial knowledge.
