The Department of Biochemistry organized a ‘Health Awareness Programme’ on 21st February 2020 at Korukanthangal Village, Chengalpet District. This One-day Awareness Programme was inaugurated by Dr. R. Vasudevaraj, Principal, SRM Arts and Science College. Faculty, Students and the volunteers from the department dedicatedly took part in the programme to educate the people and make them aware of how to take proper care of their health. The Volunteer team along with the faculty set off for the Programme from the College at 10am by bus and reached the Village around 10.30 am. Dr. B. Arirudran, Head of the Department formed four groups of Volunteer students (no. 45), staffs (no. 8) from Department of Biochemistry and directed them to convey the health awareness messages and preventive measures to the people.

As part of this Programme pamphlets with health awareness tips and solutions were also issued to the people at the Village 100 participants were participated the event. Two Teams among the four went to each house in the village and advised the people to attend the Programme for the healthy live of their young generation. The people of the Village eagerly attended the health awareness Camp. The height, weight, major biochemical parameters such as blood glucose, urine glucose, blood pressure and BMI were checked for the people in the Camp. The refreshments for the People after their blood test were provided. On evaluating their biochemical results, the public were given awareness about their health condition and given ideas to maintain their health by taking a healthy and nutritious diet. The Cooperation of the people was highly appreciable and the Camp received an overwhelming response at the Village. The programme ended around 2.30pm. All the Student Volunteers received certificates from the Principal for their service and efforts at the village. The Success of this programme encouraged the students to organize more number of camp like this to expose their social responsibility and to serve the public to make our Nation Healthy and Strong.
