On October 6, 2023, the PG Department of Commerce at SRM Arts and Science College hosted a seminar session on the use of the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) program. Research is a crucial component of the educational process that involves learning, gathering knowledge, and creating new theories to benefit specific people or groups. Hence By creating essential concepts, graduate students must advance and promote the idea of research. Therefore, the purpose of this is to assist new users in learning about the product and getting started. This session gives post-graduate students a solid foundation for writing their projects. SPSS is a thorough and adaptable statistical software program used in social science research. It assists in solving problems and allows for the extraction of useful information from the data. The final-year students from commerce management backgrounds who were preparing their dissertations were the immediate benefactors of this program. The seminar was held at Valliammai Hall by 10.30 am. A total of 132 students and 10 teachers actively participated in the programme. Dr. A.G. Vijayanarayanan, Assistant Professor, PG & Research Department of Commerce, Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College, was honored as the seminar’s Chief Guest and Resource Person. His knowledge of the SPSS, gained from a wealth of experience, promised to deepen the pupils’ understanding of the program. Welcome address given by Dr.J.Umadevi, Head i/c, Department of Commerce, Dr. B. PalaniAssistant Professor, gave the program’s audience a quick introduction to the resource person. The seminar was felicitated by Prof. K.Mathiazhagan, Vice Principal of our Institution . An enthusiastic greeting to the Chief Guest kicked off the ceremony, which was then followed by the opening address. The captivating lecture by Dr. A.G. Vijayanarayanan struck a chord with both the professors and the students, encapsulating the spirit of the subject. He discussed the importance of SPSS in data analysis with an introduction to the various data kinds and measurement scales. The speaker emphasized the significance of understanding the type and scale of data because these details are crucial when choosing statistical techniques and methodologies for data analysis. The seminar was presided over by Dr. P. Satheesh Babu, Head of the Department, Commerce (General).  Students had the opportunity to address their questions and participate in insightful conversations during the interactive session that followed the Chief Guest’s presentation. The session stimulated attendees’ interest and passion, encouraging them to use SPSS software. Dr.S.Elayamurugan, Assistant Professor anchored the program and also expressed the vote of thanks to the Chief Guest, attendees, and everyone else who helped make the seminar a success.
