An industrial visit to Hidesign India Pvt. Limited was organised by the Department of Management Studies for the first year MBA students on 6^th of April,2022.  Fifty seven students, accompanied by five staff members visited the firm.The visit aimed to impart practical knowledge about international business to the students.

The visit was flagged off by Dr. R. Vasudevaraj, Principal, Prof. K. MathiyazhaganVice Principal, and Dr.J. Saravanan, Head of the Department of Management Studies at the College.

Hidesign is a leather goods manufacturer based in Pondicherry.The company is the manufacturer and marketer of leather products including handbags, briefcases, laptop bags, travel bags, wallets, belts.Mr.JonaidAlam, Technical Head of Product Development Department took us to different departments where cutting, stitching, sand casting, colouring processes were carried out.  We were given abrief introduction about the different types of leathers made out of skins of animals like cows,goats, buffalos, ostriches and deers.The skins of cows, goats, buffalos were obtained from local vendors whereas the skins of ostriches and deers were imported from countries like US and Australia.  We got to know that they follow line production method.The company has employed almost 600 people of which 98% of the employees are women.  It was interesting to know that they recycle brass for making buckles and prefer brass to other metals since they don’t rust.  They export their products to countries like UK, USA, Sri Lanka and Spain.They have nearly 55 outlets outside India.  Students also had an opportunity to ask questions about the functioning of the company. 

Mr . K. Ravikumar, Assistant Professor of the department thanked the Technical Head of Product Development Department and the HR of the Industry. On behalf of the Department of Management Studies, a Memento was given to the HR and the Technical Head of the firm. It was an enriching experience to the students
