The students of Ist M.Sc and Ist B.Sc Microbiology attended one day training program on “Mushroom Cultivation” on 23.03.2023 in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University – Information and Training Centre (TNAU-ITC). The session was started at 10.00 am with theoretical session. The session was preceded by Dr.S.Malathi, Assistant Professor (Plant Pathology), TNAU-ITC. The basics, properties and applications of mushroom in various fields were explained followed by the different growing strategies in mushroom cultivation. The different varieties suitable for growing in our climatic conditions were also listed out. The list includes oyster mushroom, milky mushroom, and button mushroom. The temperature, relative humidity, light source, substrates, incubation time and harvesting intervals were very well explained. The diversified technical skills for varieties of mushrooms were also described. A video clip on Cylinder Method of mushroom cultivation were also played and helped the students to understand the concepts for future applications. After lunch hands on training were given to the students. They sterilized the materials, packed substrates with bed spawns and incubated at appropriate conditions. At the end of the session the students were distributed with course materials and certificates.
